Hiveforge: Xenogenesis
Hiveforge: Xenogenesis
The second public prototype in an ongoing series exploring creativity, simulation, and accessible coding systems.
Hiveforge is a set of small experiments aimed at developing a creative coding-simulation game. I’m a solo developer building tools that make programming feel approachable and strategic, using simple drag-and-drop block coding to drive complex behavior.
Xenogenesis continues that exploration.
In this prototype, you design “xenotypes”—customizable alien units defined by their appearance and by the logic you build for them. Each unit inherits the code you write and runs it independently in the world.
The premise is simple:
You’re an alien hivemind that has crash-landed on a living planet.
Your job is to gather resources, grow your colony, and survive the planet’s defense organism as night cycles progress.
You’ll manage frass (your units’ waste and main building material), construct basic structures, guide movement using pheromones, and experiment with behaviors that keep your colony alive long enough to build defenses.
Xenogenesis uses an early version of the Hiveforge block-coding engine, focused on testing how well simple logic blocks can drive autonomous behavior, resource flow, and survival challenges.
Like the rest of the Hiveforge prototypes, it’s a small, self-contained experiment meant to explore what works—and what doesn’t—as the larger project develops.
Video Tutorial
While I continue to try to make the block coding as intuitive as possible, it would take a lot of time to tutorialize its usage in the game. So I made a video tutorial to hep new players:
