Hiveforge: Dominion

The third public prototype in an ongoing series exploring creativity, simulation, and accessible coding systems.

I’m a solo developer exploring how far simple drag-and-drop block coding can go in driving behavior, strategy, and player expression. Hiveforge is a set of small experiments built to figure out the potential directions for a accessibility and creativity focused coding-simulation game.

Dominion focuses primarily on accessibility.

This is the first prototype with a built-in, playable tutorial rather than a video. The goal is to see how approachable the Hiveforge engine can be when the learning happens inside the game itself.

In Dominion, you play as the “God of Folk.” You generate Creation Points from the faith of the Folk you create. Their faith depends on their well-being, and their well-being depends on the behavior you code for them. The prototype walks you through the basics while giving you enough room to experiment.

There is one more twist: other gods exist, each nudging the world in their own chaotic ways. Their meddling forces you to adapt, revise your logic, and refine your strategy as you learn the tools.

Like the other Hiveforge prototypes, Dominion is a contained experiment meant to reveal what works and what doesn’t as the larger project takes shape.

Wow, this is really good.

Thank you! I see you’re a fellow coding game enjoyer / maker 👀 I’m gonna check out your game sometime

Yeah, but I must warn you. my only actual game was part of the gmtk game jam, so it is really scuffed.

Very cool. The only bug I found was that the slider resets back to 0 if you click and drag, but if you use the arrow keys, it stays where it needs to be.

Good bot!
Thank you for playing! Were you able to get to the end?

Yes! I did find your game demo on YouTube/Murray's Discord. But I did send it to my friend to try, who doesn't have a programming background. I'm not really into resource sims like this, but it still hooked me in for like 20 minutes, so you've got some spark in it.
